Health Canada now requires all cosmetic companies to advise their customers of potential fragrance related allergens that are contained in their products at certain concentrations. This allows consumers to identify ingredients to which they may be allergic or sensitive, or wish to avoid, helping them make more informed health decisions regarding product purchase and use.

We do not use fragrance oils in any of our products, therefore you will never see the term "fragrance" or "parfum" in our ingredient lists. This does make our job easier than other makers who use fragrance oils as these tend to contain more of these potential allergens than essential oils. 

Some essential oils do still contain potential allergens that are contained within Health Canada's list of fragrance allergens - so any of the allergens listed below are contained within the essential oils that are used to scent our products.

Why We Use It

We have chosen to formulate our Body Butter as a water based product rather than oil based. We found that a water based formula soaks into the skin faster and doesn't sit on top like many body butter products on the market. Traditional oil based body butters struggle to keep proper consistency and will melt in warmer temperatures, during shipping etc. Distilled water is used as the base of this product combined with two humectants (glycerin and propanediol) that help to draw the moisture from the distilled water into the skin.

Why We Use It

Kokum butter is a highly moisturizing, non-comedogenic, and lightweight emollient - a harder butter than Mango Butter -the combination of both butters in this formula produces a thick and luscious texture. It excels at deeply hydrating skin without clogging pores, repairing the skin barrier, and providing antioxidant protection through high levels of vitamin E and essential fatty acids. It is ideal for treating dry, cracked skin. Not to be confused with Cocoa Butter, Kokum Butter does not have the same chocolatey scent that Cocoa Butter does.

Why We Use It

Mango Butter is highly emollient, non-comedogenic, and nutrient-dense fat derived from mango seeds, rich in vitamins A, C, and E, as well as fatty acids. It deeply moisturizes, boosts skin elasticity, reduces inflammation, and acts as an antioxidant to fight free radical damage. Its lightweight, non-greasy texture works well on all skin types. Mango Butter is the softer of the two butters we use in this formula, the pairing of Mango + Kokum butters leave a thick and luscious texture to the product.

Why We Use It

Coco Caprylate is an ECOCERT approved smooth spreading plant based emollient derived from coconuts that we add to products to improve how quickly and easily the product is absorbed to the skin. Without this ingredient in some of our formulas, carrier oils alone can sit on top of the skin and leave a greasy skin feel. It also helps products spread nicely across the skin without drag. This is a high quality and very expensive ingredient but one that is well worth adding as an alternative to synthetic silicones.

Why We Use It

Cetyl Alcohol acts as a premium, non-drying thickener and emollient in our Body Butter, creating a luxurious, silky-smooth texture without tackiness. It acts as an occlusive agent to lock in moisture, stabilizes the formula to prevent separation, and increases the melting point to prevent melting in warm temperatures. Cetyl Alcohol actually does not contain alcohol despite its name, instead it is a plant based natural ingredient derived from coconuts.

We made a conscious decision to NOT whip our body butter unlike many on the market.

First - when the product is whipped, that process infuses a lot of air into the product. This means that our jars fill up with a lot of air instead of body butter. This means you as the customer would get less product in the same size of jar. We thought you would rather have more product than air.

While the whipped texture does look pretty and makes for good social media content, once the customer dips their fingers in for the first use, the appearance of that pretty whipped texture disappears immediately.

Whipping the Body Butter takes a lot of extra time - we simply create our product and hand pour them into the jars. This helps improve our efficiency and keep our costs lower.

We believe you will love the skin feel of our body butter so much that it will not matter if the product is whipped or not.

We do not add dyes or micas to our products so the colors you see in other products are purely for aesthetic purposes as those ingredients do not serve any other purpose.

Absolutely not.

Many traditional body butters on the market are made with all oil based ingredients. We tried that to start with but we found that the body butter just sits on your skin and doesn't like to soak in quickly, if at all. It almost feels like you are literally buttering your skin like a piece of toast!

We went back to the drawing board and researched and tested and have decided to formulate an emulsified body butter, which actually contains water. This option helps stabilize the product so it won't melt in warm temperatures - plus the combination of our two luxurious butters with our fatty thickeners and emulsifiers produces a thick and beautiful product with velvety skin feel - AND it soaks in quickly to the skin. So you don't get that buttered toast effect!

Our Body Butter is a thicker more luscious cream than our Body Lotion. If you have very dry skin we would recommend the Body Butter - our Body Lotion is lightweight and a lovely product as well, but it is thinner and not as rich as the Body Butter. Many customers like to use the Body Lotion in the summer months and switch to Body Butter in the dry winter climate.

Thanks for noticing! Our Body Butter comes in its natural color - and that is by design We ensure our products are made with minimal + mindful ingredients - so when we formulate we assess each ingredient for its purpose - if it doesn't serve a purpose other than looking pretty, we leave it out. Our products do not contain any dyes or micas as these ingredients serve no purpose other than being a colorant. Which simply is not necessary. We like to let our formulas shine in their natural color and instead we make our packing colorful!.
