Because We Can't Make Everything
As much as I would like to, one thing I have learned in my small business venture is that I can't possibly make everything I want to. My business started with crafting glasses and other "Cricut" style of projects, and then moved to candles and then to the bath and body line. Each chapter of my journey has involved tireless research, learning, practicing, failing and finally succeeding! So far I have been doing all of this while still working full time at a very busy (and sometimes stressful) day job!
As I built my website, there were gaps and holes that I wanted to fill - things I wanted to be able to offer to my "homebody customers" to give them all the cool essential things that my business was built around. This desire led me down a path to look at curating certain items instead of making everything myself!
So far I just have a few items included that either go well with my products - such as accessories for our shampoo + conditioner bars, or a candle wick trimmer (which I realized myself when I started making candles that I didn't own myself!)
I have also sourced out some really cool kitchen products like our pop up sponges and Swedish dish cloths from an eco Canadian company called Plantish. These products are actually compostable when there is no more life left in the cloth which makes them a zero waste product. I love that to wash these you just pop them in the top rack of the diswasher which is super convenient.
I also sourced out the most adorable bamboo sisal kitchen scrub brush which I have by my kitchen sink and use it on the daily. This little work horse goes perfectly with my dish soap on one of my oval trays.
I also love these handy little soap savers I sourced out that hold our shampoo and conditioner bars perfectly. They can be cut to whatever size you need if you want to pop one of these into an existing soap tray or they can be just used on their own. they are made from recycled bioplastic as well.
The thing with these curated items is that other than researching them and sourcing them out and putting them on my website, there is very little work for me to do with the sale of these items. I have purposefully kept my pricing low on all of these products to pass on some great savings and some great products to you. This is a win-win as these cool products help me fill in those gaps on my site that I feel are missing. They compliment my products and my brand and so I feel it is a great collaboration.
Once our busy market season settles down AND I get to retire next spring, my focus will be to bring in more of these cool curated products that make Homebody Essentials a great place to shop.
Cheers!
